Susan Boyle shows her caring side to swell charity's coffers

SHE'S gone a long way from her West Lothian roots, but Susan Boyle's influence still has its benefits for one local charity.

Two fans from Norfolk recently wrote to the singer, complimenting her voice and enclosing money they wanted to go towards carers, following on from the star's own experience caring for her mother for several years.

The singer wrote back to the men and elected local charity The Princess Royal Trust Carers of West Lothian.

Mary-Denise McKernan, manager for Carers of West Lothian, said: "We're delighted to receive this money, which will help us support unpaid carers and young carers in West Lothian. It's wonderful that Susan's influence has worked for us in this way."

The singing sensation, who shot to worldwide stardom after her performance of I Dreamed a Dream on Britain's Got Talent, is currently staying in London's Kensington area with her cat Pebbles as she records her new album, which could earn her 5 million.

Carers of West Lothian also recently benefited from a life transitions grant from the Big Lottery of 190,791, to be awarded over the next three years.
