Surface leak to blame for salon floods
A SURFACE water leak was to blame for thousands of gallons of water pouring into a Leith hairdressing salon, Scottish Water claimed today.
The News told yesterday how Beatrice and Jim McShee have had to use a pump supplied by their insurers to tackle the water seeping into their Pirrie Street premises over the past four weeks. The couple were exasperated that neither the city council or Scottish Water appeared to be taking responsibility for fixing the leak, which started on February 22.
However, the utility firm today said it had run tests which showed the source was surface water.
A spokesman for Scottish Water said: "Samples have been returned from the lab with a statement that there is no chlorine in the water, indicating that it is surface water and thus the responsibility of the council."
