Supermops join battle against bugs
HEALTH chiefs have unveiled a new weapon in their ongoing drive against hospital bugs – "supermops".
The new equipment, which will be introduced at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, will spell the end of the traditional cleaners' mop and bucket combo.
The microfibre mops are said to be 3,200 times more effective than using bleach, and should further reduce the number of hospital MRSA and C.diff infections.
John Jack, director of facilities for NHS Lothian, said: "This new technology is a real breakthrough."
He added: "We are glad that the ERI is one of the first to introduce the full system."
