Clark Cross (Letters, 22 January) is mistaken. The sun has not gone to sleep. In fact, there are several major sunspots visible at present.

It is going through its normal cycle of activity, not that this would have much effect on our climate, which is steadily warming due to the emission of greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels.
