Suicide support training boost
HEALTH workers across a range of services are to be given additional training in suicide prevention.
Staff in frontline areas such as mental health, substance abuse and even accident and emergency will be offered the courses as part of Suicide Prevention Week.
Last year in the Lothians the number of people taking their own life was the highest it has been for some time. It is hoped the training will help make suicide less of a taboo subject.
NHS Lothian chairman Dr Charles Winstanley said: "Every life lost to suicide is tragic.
"We believe that suicide prevention should be everybody's business. So we are offering this training to enable more staff identify people at risk of suicide and offer them appropriate support."
