STV staff may strike on pay

HUNDREDS of staff at STV are threatening to strike next month over a pay freeze.

As part of a pay review, staff have been told this year's expected 4 per cent rise has been deferred until the company reaches financial targets, with a review planned in January. Those affected include journalists, production staff and sales personnel.

The National Union of Journalists will meet STV chiefs next week.

If no compromise is reached, staff will be balloted for a strike and could walk out in March.

BEAUTY OF THE SISTERS

THE Five Sisters of Kintail is a classic ridge walk taking in three Munros and providing a spectacular west Highland view.

The three peaks are Sgurr Fhuaran (3,503ft Peak of the Spring); Sgurr na Ciste Dhuibhe (3,369ft Peak of the Black Chest) and Sgurr na Crnach (3,287ft Peak of the Stony Place).

Legend has it that two of seven sisters married visiting brothers who vowed to send their five other brothers for the remaining five sisters.

When they didn't return, the five sisters let a spell be cast to change them into peaks to preserve their beauty while they waited.
