Students dig deeper for digs
STUDENTS at Edinburgh universities are paying almost £10 a week above the average in rent for private accommodation, according to new figures.
Average weekly rents across the UK stand at 62.61 – an increase of 1.6 per cent on last year – and a 19 per cent increase on the average rent of 52.44 in 2004.
The survey found that students at universities in the Capital were paying 71.07 in rent.
Scottish NUS president, Liam Burns, said: "Students are being forced to work more hours or take on commercial debt to get by."
