Students plan solar marathon
FOUR students are to make the first-ever solar-powered journey from Land's End to John o' Groats.
The team, from Cambridge University, will make the 934- mile journey in a solar-electric vehicle and hope their efforts will help increase awareness of the environment.
The car, called Affinity, was designed and built by students at the university and will be put on display at schools along the route during the week-long trip starting tomorrow. It will also go on show in Edinburgh city centre on 13 June.
Martin McBrien, the team captain, said: "Designing and building the car has been an exhilarating experience for all involved, with the many ups and downs, late nights and breakthrough moments making the whole project worthwhile."
