A STUDENT has won a job at a renowned chef’s restaurant after winning a television cooking contest.

Jamie MacKinnon, from Perth, has been crowned The Chef’s Protege for his work with Capital chef Tom Kitchin in the BBC Two show of the same name.

The four-week programme saw Kitchin, Theo Randall and Michel Roux Jr return to catering college and take a student under their wing.

Jamie, 17, won the final cook-off between the students.

He said: “This is definitely the best day of my life. You can’t really describe how amazing it makes you feel.”

Michelin-starred Kitchin said he has “unbelievable” pride in Jamie, himself and Scotland after the winner was announced.

“I think Jamie is really interesting because he has really taken on the philosophy, the belief, the passion. He’s just submerged himself into my philosophy.”

Jamie will start working in The Kitchin restaurant in Edinburgh when he finishes at Perth college.
