Struggling radio station put up for sale

AN EDINBURGH radio station is to be sold after only two-and-a-half years of broadcasting.

Talk107 is being put up for sale by the Northern Irish company, UTV Radio.

The station was launched on 14 February, 2006, and was the first commercial talk-only radio station outside London. But despite a host of big-name presenters and a shake-up of staff in the summer, it failed to bring in the ratings UTV demanded.

A company spokesman said: "We are looking to sell the business as a going concern. There were 15 applications for the original licence in 2004, so it is obviously popular and we are hopeful of finding a buyer."

Earlier this year, UTV was reporting losses of 600,000, and Talk presenters Tommy Sheridan, Mike Graham, Susan Morrison and Scottie McClue lost their jobs.

In July, the station had a listenership of an average 300,000 hours a week, while last week the figure had fallen to 228,000.
