Stoning sentence deemed 'barbaric'
The European Union yesterday described the sentence of stoning to death passed against an Iranian woman convicted of adultery as "barbaric".
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said he was "appalled" and called the sentence "barbaric beyond words".
Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani's sentence is currently being reviewed by Iran's supreme court.
