Steven Purcell case still active – police
POLICE have denied reports that Steven Purcell, the disgraced former leader of Glasgow City Council, is to escape charges.
Weekend reports suggested police had concluded their investigation and there was not enough evidence to press ahead with prosecutions on drugs and corruption allegations.
However, a Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said yesterday the case was "still active" and there had been "no change" from a statement put out on 3 June, the day after Mr Purcell voluntarily attended an interview for questioning. She said: "There is an ongoing criminal inquiry".
