Station restored to former glory
RE GLASGOW'S Queen Street Station revamp and expansion (News, 21 June), may I point out that the accompanying photograph is of Glasgow Central Station.
Be that as it may, extension of platforms at Queen Street would put them where the majority were in the 60s, ie, on to the concourse whence they aligned, more or less, with what is now the Travel Centre. This was reasonably practicable, apart from in busy holiday periods in those days. However, I note the concern with the welcome increase in passenger usage. The "extra long curving platform" mentioned also existed, then adjacent to a goods depot, and was predominantly used by the West Highland services which could be lengthy and were worked by two locomotives. This was all taken away to provide the taxi rank area.
