How far back does Bruce Crichton (Letters, 22 August) want to push the “frontiers of the state”?
Already because of devolved powers the governance of Scotland is different from that in England and Wales.
There, apparently privatisation of institutions like education and health is much further and deeper. Also, Mr Crichton appears to have forgotten about the dominance of the economy by foreign ownership.
Moreover, there is the concentration of economic activity by global corporations which dwarf government in Scotland. Take, for example, the economic power of Amazon or the purchasing power of big retailers.
Arguably, what Jeremy Corbyn proposes is “unreal” and not relevant in a fully devolved Scotland, or even the rest of the UK.
