Animal welfare officers are investigating after a starved dog found under a bridge had to be put down.

The Scottish SPCA were called out after a member of the public spotted the long-haired male collie lying under a small bridge just off the B6369 Haddington to Gifford road.

The emaciated dog was immediately taken to a vet, but was put to sleep to end any further suffering.

Inspector Emma Phillips said: “This dog was severely underweight, had no energy and could barely walk. He was also blind in one eye.”
