Stand up for the Military Tattoo
WORK has begun erecting the grandstands for the 2008 Edinburgh Military Tattoo on the Castle Esplanade.
The ageing stands, which date from 1975, are set to be replaced with newer seating, at a cost of up to 10 million.
The iconic event was hit by slower ticket sales this year, with organisers blaming the US economic slump for fewer American visitors.
This year's Tattoo, which runs from August 1-28, will feature the massed bands of the Royal Marines, the King's Guards Band of Norway and the famed Royal Regiment of Scotland.
