SSP moves to clear up Curran ballot paper confusion
SSP candidate for Glasgow East - Frances Curran - has moved to dispel any confusion between her and the Labour candidate who shares the same surname.
Party workers will distribute thousands of leaflets across the constituency with the message :
"VOTE FOR THE LEFT CURRAN NOT THE RIGHT CURRAN"
The leaflet contrasts Frances as being a Socialist with Labour candidate Margaret Curran who the SSP say used to be one.
The leaflet lists the SSP' s opposition to the Iraq war, for the scrapping of the council tax and in support of free school meals.
It reproduces the ballot paper for Thursday's poll with a cross indicating Frances' name.
Frances said: "The SSP is fighting this election on a clear socialist programme as opposed to Labour who are lined up with the Tories in attacking benefit claimants and the unemployed.
"We are distributing this leaflet as an aid to voters who might make the mistake of voting Labour thinking they are socialists."
