I have no wish to flog a dead horse, but to “separate from” or “leave“ England are not the same thing, as Mae Mitchell (Letters, 7 May) seems to think.

Independence for Scotland would not be an act of separation from the shared history or aspects of the culture of both countries since 1707, but a decoupling from Westminster political control. So, in that respect, we would leave England to get on with its own political future but with no vindictive intent. Which was the gist of my previous letter.
