Span fans' big demand

ENGINEERING enthusiasts have "overwhelmed" operators of the Forth Road Bridge with their demand for a guided tour of the ageing structure.

The Forth Estuary Transport Authority is offering tours of the bridge as part of its second annual Open Week.

But after 550 tour requests, it has been forced to create 100 extra places to cope with the level of demand.

The minibus tours last one hour, visiting points of interest along the structure at deck level then one of the main cable anchorage chambers.
