Son of German political leader found dead in Edinburgh

THE son of a German political leader has been found dead in a flat in Scotland, it was revealed today.

Stephan Bisky, 23, the son of Lothar Bisky, chairman of the Left Party in the German Parliament, was discovered in Edinburgh on Christmas Eve.

The 67-year-old politician told German media that his son, a student at the University of Edinburgh, had been due to meet him at Leipzig airport in time to celebrate Christmas.

Mr Bisky said he had flown to the Scottish capital to identify the body and would remain in the city until the cause of death was confirmed.

Lothian and Borders Police in Edinburgh said: "We can confirm that we were called to Windmill Place, Edinburgh, at around 1.05pm on December 24, following the discovery of a 23-year-old man's body in a flat there.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

Stephan Bisky is understood to have enrolled as a PhD student in Edinburgh and was a graduate of the University of Otago in New Zealand.
