Soldiers get boost with Christmas parcels
FAMILIES of British soldiers serving abroad are gearing up for a bumper Christmas with the number of parcels being sent rising by 25 per cent, according to Royal Mail.
Troops' friends and relatives posted gifts filling more than 46,000 post bags in October, the firm says, compared with 38,500 in the same month last year.
Since December 2007 it has been free for soldiers' families to send them Christmas gifts.
Karen Webster, founder of Support Our Soldiers which aims to provide practical and morale-boosting support for British troops, said: "It is so important that family members are able to keep in touch."
