Sofas and wine are what Scots look for in a pub
SCOTTISH pub-goers are more likely than others in Britain to want a comfy sofa and a good selection of wine in their bar, writes Tristan Stewart-Robertson.
A poll by YouGov found Scots also wanted a children's menu more than other parts of the UK, while ranking log fires, beer gardens and local beers as less important than in other regions.
Overall, the survey ranked good food and drinks as the most important quality for a pub by two thirds of customers. Just 1 per cent thought wifi in a pub was important, and less than 1 per cent wanted cakes and Danish pastries. Coffee and a range of tea was favoured by 7 per cent.
A friendly landlord was considered essential by 57 per cent of those surveyed, with almost a third wanting their pub to be the centre of the community.
Rooney Anand, head of Greene King, which runs about 2,400 pubs in the UK and commissioned the survey, said: "The British pub meets timeless human needs that are simply not fulfilled by other meeting places or groups, like social media networks."
