So, this is what the Doctor will be wearing next season

DOCTOR Who's new look was revealed to fans yesterday, as Scots actor David Tennant began filming a Christmas special with Billie Piper.

In the last episode of the previous series, Christopher Eccleston "regenerated" into Tennant, but only his face could be seen.

Speaking of his new look - pinstripe suit, shirt and Windsor-knotted tie, full-length trench coat and trainers - Tennant, 33, who helped choose the clothes, said: "I think we've come up with something distinctive that's both timeless and modern, with a bit of geek chic and, of course, a dash of Time Lord. Most importantly, Billie tells me she likes it - after all, she's the one who has to see me in it for the next nine months."

Former pop star Piper is back as the Doctor's feisty companion, Rose Tyler, for the Christmas special, in which the whole of mankind falls under the shadow of the alien Sycorax. She also appears in all 13 episodes of the second series, which starts next March.

Elisabeth Sladen, remembered by a generation of Doctor Who fans as assistant to both Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, resumes her role as Sarah Jane Smith in the new series, which also features the return of an old enemy, the Cybermen.

Anthony Head, of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Little Britain, and Adam Garcia, who was in Coyote Ugly and the musical Saturday Night Fever, will be among the guest stars.
