SNP have friends in the south
Scottish independence has greater support in England and Wales than it does north of the Border, according to a new poll.
Some 41 per cent of people around the rest of the UK back the SNP's plans to split from the Union, but the measure is supported by only 29 per cent of Scots.
The poll by YouGov also found that 58 per cent of Scots are opposed to independence, while 13 per cent are undecided.
English independence is backed by 44 per cent of people in London.
The results also showed 54 per cent of people south of the Border think Scots would be worse off as an independent country.
But Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon insisted Scotland would flourish.
She said: "The latest figures show Scotland with a current budget surplus of 1.3 billion. And this year, North Sea oil and gas revenues have hit a new record of 13.4bn. One benefit of independence is will have access to our own abundant resources."
