SNP reshuffle profile: Maureen Watt
MAUREEN Watt was elected from the north east list and became the first MSP to take the oath of allegiance in Doric.
Her parliamentary web page greets viewers with the phrase, "Aye aye, fit like" in a colloquial nod to her Banffshire roots.
She attracted unwanted opposition attention in May last year after suggesting to MSPs that walking to school counted towards a weekly target for physical exercise.
Tory leader Annabel Goldie said Ms Watt's ministerial position was "untenable" at the time.
Born in Aberdeen and educated in Keith, Ms Watt studied politics in Birmingham University.
The married 57-year-old is the daughter of Hamish Watt, the SNP MP for Banffshire in 1974-79.
Ms Watt was elected in April 2006 after Richard Lochhead resigned his seat to contest the Moray by-election, which he went on to win.
She was promoted to minister for schools and skills when the SNP took office in May 2007.
