Grassroots SNP activists will today launch their campaign for a Brexit vote in the forthcoming referendum on EU membership.
SNP supporter and former Moderator of the Scottish Free Church, David Robertson will be joined by businessman Don Morrison, a long-term SNP member at the launch in Dundee.
The party leadership is staunchly in favour of Scotland remaining in the EU.
But Mr Robertson insisted cutting ties with Brussels would give Holyrood enhanced controls over areas like agriculture and fishing.
He said: “I don’t understand why we’re being asked to vote against more powers for the Scottish Parliament. Nicola [Sturgeon] and our SNP government in Scotland could have more control if we left, yet they don’t seem to want it.”
The SNP member for 50 years and ex-chairman of its Huntly branch added: “I want to see an independent Scotland, where we can govern ourselves and make our own decisions – that simply isn’t possible within the European Union.”
Every SNP Parliamentarian – 54 MPs at Westminster and 63 Holyrood MSPs – back the leadership’s Remain stance.
