Snaring policies
WHILE it is encouraging that the Scottish Government is endorsing a new campaign to help save the Scottish wildcat (your report, 6 May) I find it staggering that at the same time it is also adding to the problem.
With estimates on population numbers as low as around 400, we should be doing everything we can to save this iconic species from extinction, yet the government has chosen to allow snaring to continue in this country.
Snares pose a direct threat to the wildcat and evidence has shown they are being caught and killed in these traps.
In its commitment to help the wildcat, I hope the Scottish Government will re-think its own polices on snaring and put an end to their use once and for all.
