Smoking shelters put up at psychiatric hospital

THE city's psychiatric hospital is the latest to have smoking shelters installed.

It means smokers being treated or visiting the Royal Edinburgh in Morningside can only smoke in the three shelters that have been erected.

Health chiefs hope that it will gradually encourage some people to stop, while improving the health of passive smokers.

Operations director Tim Montgomery said: "It is intended to encourage people to stop smoking and is backed up by support of the smoking cessation co-ordinator."
