Slump in Hogmanay ticket sales follows price hike
TICKET sales for Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations fell to an all-time low after organisers hiked up prices for passes, The Scotsman has learned.
Organisers have admitted none of the main events at the capital's celebrations sold out this year – despite claiming last week that the street party was "an enormous success".
The council decided to charge 10 – twice last year's price – for street party passes which were free until four years ago.
City council officials have also admitted they scaled back this year's fireworks display in a bid to save money.
Traditional displays were axed at landmarks including Corstorphine Hill and Craigmillar Castle, though new dance and street theatre events in the Old Town were added.
