Six William Wallaces open Stirling's new bridge
A SCOTTISH council has recruited six people, all named William Wallace, to open its new bridge today.
Stirling Council issued a rallying call in March to find a namesake to perform the task.
Wallace won his most famous battle against the English at Stirling Bridge in 1297.
Now six people by the same name from all over Scotland, aged between two and 65, have been chosen to open the latest crossing in the city.
They include a father and son from Elderslie, Renfrewshire, the birthplace of Wallace in 1270, and a two-year-old from Glasgow.
The William Wallaces will take part in the opening of the 100-metre bridge which links the city centre to Forthside, Stirling's multi-million-pound waterfront development.
The new bridge, which will be illuminated by night, will give pedestrians access to the 40-acre development which aims to regenerate the banks of the River Forth.
