Sitcoms made mainly by Scots

SCOTTISH-based production personnel made up more than 80% of the crews who filmed the sitcoms Old Guys and Life Of Riley in the BBC Scotland studios in Pacific Quay. ("Scots' fury as BBC fly in English staff", News, 20 September).

Yes, a small number of staff from elsewhere in the BBC complemented those local crew – just as crew from BBC Scotland are used by other parts of the BBC when their skills are appropriate to the production.

We will always try to use Scottish-based crews as much as we can as that way we build up and enhance our local skills base, but we also have to choose the right people for the right jobs – and that will sometimes mean our crews work alongside BBC colleagues from elsewhere.

Donald-Iain Brown, head of talent division and operations, BBC Scotland
