TENS of thousands of fans lined the streets of Edinburgh today to celebrate the achievements of the city’s Olympic heroes.
Sir Chris Hoy and silver-medal canoeist David Florence, were among those paraded through the streets of the Capital before an estimated 30,000 people.
Setting off from the City Chambers on the Royal Mile, the gold open top bus travelled down The Mound and onto Prince Street, where five-row deep crowds cheered on the athletes.
Despite torrents of rain at one stage, residents and tourists lined the route to the Assembly Rooms on George Street, where Sir Chris received the the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh in recognition of his status as Britain’s greatest ever Olympian.
“The crowds were amazing” lightweight boxer Josh Taylor told the Evening News, as he and his team mates packed into the venue for this afternoon’s ceremony.
