Singer hoping to be showered with kists for her show

A SCOTS singer is on the hunt for ten wooden travel chests to be used as props for her upcoming Festival show.

Fiona Kennedy is appealing to Capital residents to lend her their "kists" - sturdy chests historically used to transport possessions - to furnish her stage when she plays the New Town Theatre: Majestic from August 5-21.

Mrs Kennedy believes the kists are symbols of the country's heritage as many were used by emigrating Scots who packed the boxes with their "old lives, most treasured belongings, their music".

"It has been a fascinating experience tracing kists and I feel there must be a kist in Edinburgh with a quirky history attached to it which we could weave into the storyline of our production," she said.

"My current favourite has some secret compartments and is over a hundred years old.

"I'm looking forward to hearing about your kists, their stories and we hope that the winner will enjoy our show and meeting the cast."

To submit a kist, contact Bronagh Goan with a picture and a brief summary of any interesting stories behind it on bronagh@tartansilk.co.uk

Those chosen will receive free tickets to Fiona Kennedy's show and an opportunity to meet the cast afterwards.

A spokesman said: "The Kist tells the musical story of the Scots, from the tribal rhythms of the Gael to the upbeat music of today."
