Shoppers get 'brand' new store
SUPERMARKET group Morrisons is set to open the first converted Edinburgh store since its £3 billion takeover of Safeway.
Former Safeway shoppers at Gyle Avenue will see their store rebranded as Morrisons on August 26, as part of a three-year process to overhaul the former company’s 427-strong estate.
The shop is only the second in Scotland to be fully converted, following a recent rebranding of a supermarket in Dumfries.
The existing Safeway store will close for business this Saturday when the final alterations will take place.
A spokesman said today: "We need to close the store for a few days for the final push, which includes bringing in the new products and updating the computer system. This is part of a multi-million pound process to convert all the stores and this will be the tenth in the UK."
General manager Kevin Cunningham will cut the ribbon at 9am a week tomorrow.
