Shopkeeper chases gunman after theft

A SHOPKEEPER chased an armed robber who stole a three-figure sum of money from his store in Edinburgh.

The owner was threatened with what appeared to be a gun at Meadows Wine in Melville Drive at around 9pm on Friday.

The man stole the cash and was then chased by the 40-year-old shopkeeper along Sciennes Place.

The robber was described as 6ft, of medium to heavy build, wearing blue jeans and a waist-length black Helly Hansen jacket, a beige beanie hat and a black ski mask or balaclava.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "The area was busy at this time of the evening and I'm sure someone must have seen this 40-yard chase along Sciennes Place.

"Indeed, the shop was busy with customers immediately prior to the male entering and someone may have seen the male hanging around the shop prior to him entering. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police."
