Comments from Pete Martin on the Scottish Government’s consultation on the licensing of sexual entertainment (Perspective, 3 July) are particularly disturbing in a day when internet pornography is fuelling the fires of sexual abuse.
Lap-dancing clubs send out a very clear message – that women are sex objects to be stared at like animals in a zoo.
It is amazing that in a modern society there is not universal opposition to such a demeaning form of “entertainment”.
There is already widespread public concern over the accessibility of sexually suggestive material to children – and Mr Martin’s suggested “permissive” and “shame-free” approach will make this worse, not better.
