Sexual health clinic plan for old hospital
A ONE-STOP shop for sexual health in the Lothians has taken a step closer after council planners backed the plans.
The redevelopment of Chalmers Hospital in Lauriston Place will go before councillors next week and has been recommended for approval by officials.
It means the hospital, beside the old ERI, will be the focal point for sexual health services across the Lothians.
People will be able to be tested, diagnosed and treated at the same place and family planning services will also be available.
The redevelopment will involve demolition of parts of the rear of the building and a total refurbishment of the hospital's interior. A three-storey extension to the south of the site would also be created.
One of the conditions of the permission from the city council will be the provision of covered parking for 16 staff bikes and six patient or visitor bikes.
