Senior Scots Labour MPs throw weight behind David Miliband
Labour supporters in Scotland have been told that former foreign secretary David Miliband is the man to lead the party back to power.
Senior Labour MPs Jim Murphy and Douglas Alexander have given him their backing as Mr Miliband prepares to visit Scotland today Mr Miliband will be campaigning in Ayr, Glasgow, East Kilbride and Airdrie as part of in his bid to become the next Labour leader.
In an open letter, the two MPs said: "We have known David over two decades as a friend and colleague.
"His commitment to Labour's values and his dedication to the success of the Labour movement have paved the way for some of our greatest achievements in government."
They added: "As the first Labour leadership candidate to come to Scotland and meet with Labour activists and supporters, David has shown he understands the importance of listening to Scotland and engaging with members."
