Self-screening DVD launched
A DVD is to be launched to inform health professionals about a self-screening programme for bowel cancer.
The ten-minute film has been created by the Scottish Bowel Screening Programme, which is based at the Astley Ainslie Hospital in Morningside.
Under the scheme people aged between 50 and 74 are sent a simple kit to conduct their own test, which is then sent to health professionals to assess. It has already saved lives, with a number of people undergoing treatment who would not otherwise have known they had the disease.
Professor Bob Steele, the programme's director, said: "Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death."
