Second chance for drunk nurse
A NURSE has escaped being struck from the nursing register after being convicted of two crimes while drunk.
James Murphy, 53, of Edinburgh, was found slumped drunk at the wheel of a car and later convicted of vandalising his ex-wife's car after he found out she was having an affair.
The mental health nurse was fined 450 and given 10 penalty points for the first offence in 2002, and fined 100 for the attack on his ex-wife's car in 2005.
He gave a full and frank admission of his actions, and confessed "deep regret."
Mr Murphy escaped censure from a three-man Nurse and Midwifery Council committee in Edinburgh yesterday and is now free to carry on with his 36-year nursing career.
Currently working as a Unit Manager with Bupa Care Homes in Edinburgh, Mr Murphy was living and working in the Isle of Man.
He said he had met and married his now ex-wife in a very short space of time during 2001.
Representing himself, he said: "I take full responsibility for my actions and I deeply regret what happened."
