A search is ongoing for a hillwalker who has been missing overnight after failing to return from an expedition on Skye.

The man aged in his 60s had been in the Coire a Ghrunnda area and was reported overdue by a concerned family member late on Tuesday evening.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Portree are currently co-ordinating a search for an overdue hillwalker.

“At approximately 9.42pm on 24 September police were notified of the overdue return of a man, but due to poor visibility on the hill, searches were deferred until the next morning.

“Searches commenced at approximately 7am today with assistance from the Skye Mountain Rescue Team and HM Stornoway Coastguard Rescue 100 helicopter.”
