Seafield stink plan is not to be sniffed at
FURTHER measures have been outlined to help combat the notorious "Seafield stench".
Leith residents have long complained about the foul-smelling odour that comes from the nearby water treatment works.
Now operator Veolia Water has announced that, as part of a multi-million-pound programme of improvement works, it will provide containment for the storage of sludge, or "cake", which has previously been held in the open.
Initial investigations into the options for containment are under way as part of developing an overall "sludge management strategy" for the site.
They will continue for a further short period and a firm proposal should be identified by April.
Veolia Water and Scottish Water plan to meet with representatives of the local community to unveil their proposals and update them on the timetable for construction.
Scottish Water's John Telfer said: "In addition to the works that both Scottish Water and Veolia have committed to implement under the Odour Improvement Plan, we welcome news of the additional investment being proposed by Veolia Water UK, and we look forward to receiving its plans in this respect."
