Scottish host may be crippled for life
A SCOTTISH expatriate may never walk again after a drunk he expelled from a dinner party in his Bulgarian home allegedly ran him over in a Land Rover.
Gavin Harrison, 57, a retired driver from Glasgow, was entertaining with his wife, Maureen, in the village of Momkovo on Saturday when an unwelcome guest became abusive.
The Harrisons moved to Bulgaria in 2007 after Mrs Harrison was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Mr Harrison reportedly asked William Muir, 61, to leave because he was drunk and behaved "obnoxiously". As Mr Muir was being escorted to his Land Rover, he is said to have hit Mr Harrison and then run him over with the car.
Mr Harrison is being treated for broken limbs, a fractured skull and a brain haemorrhage.
Mrs Harrison said: "William turned up uninvited and he was already drunk. At one point, I heard my husband say: 'You don't insult my wife in my own house', and he then asked William to leave.
"I heard this almighty crash. We all came out and saw my husband lying in the middle of the road."
Nina Nikolova, a spokeswoman for the Bulgarian police, said Mr Muir was arrested and confessed to running over Mr Harrison.
Mr Muir, a retired plumber from Birmingham who has been living in Bulgaria since February, was released yesterday, but could face charges of inflicting bodily harm and driving under the influence of alcohol.
