Zoo's wolverines get claws into game sponsorship cash
A WOLVERINE at Edinburgh Zoo has had its name changed to Logan, as part of a tie-in with the new Hollywood blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The zoo is home to the only wolverines in the UK, and to promote the launch of the Wolverine video game, creator Activision Blizzard has agreed to sponsor the wolverine enclosure for one year.
In addition, the zoo's alpha male wolverine has changed his name to Logan, after the Marvel character.
The sponsorship will help to ensure that Edinburgh Zoo can continue its breeding programme throughout 2009 and 2010.
Cristina Pouso, corporate development manager at Edinburgh Zoo, said:
"As a charity we rely on our fundraising to further our work and sponsorship is an excellent way for us raise essential funds, not just for the day-to-day care of our animals, but for our conservation projects across the globe."
Aruna Sinha, senior brand manager for Activision Blizzard, said: "With wolverines an endangered species, we see Wolverine having a major role in helping people become more aware of these wonderful creatures and ensuring their survival for many years to come."
