Workmen rescued after being stranded outside sixth floor of library
A MAJOR rescue operation had to be launched to free three workmen stranded in a cradle outside the sixth floor of the new library at Aberdeen University.
The workmen were using a cradle to replace glass panels on the outside of the building, more than 70ft up, when the cradle suffered a “mechanical” problem and could not be raised or lowered.
The three men were rescued after being stuck in the cradle for around two hours by firefighters using a specialist crane and a basket.
Contractors PIHL have been working since February replacing some 500 tinted glass panels at the new £57 million library which were the wrong colour.
