Workman who conned three victims jailed for 18 months

A WORKMAN who conned three elderly women out of almost £5000 for work he hadn’t done has been jailed for 18 months.

David Scott was paid £2000 by a 77-year-old woman for landscaping work in her garden which he never completed.

An 80-year-old woman also paid him £1300 for building work which was never done, and a 78-year-old woman gave him £1600 for roof repairs, which were not carried out

All the offences took place in the Capital. Scott, a prisoner at Kilmarnock, had pleaded guilty previously to three charges of fraud committed between October 1, 2009, and March 31 last year.

Sentencing the 27-year-old at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, Sheriff James Scott said: “I have no doubt at all that no sentence other than a custodial sentence is appropriate.

“You took advantage of elderly people. That is totally unacceptable”.
