Wills’ knight to remember

PIPE bands were due to lead a parade down the Royal Mile today after Prince William, known as the Earl of Strathearn in Scotland, was installed as a Knight of the Thistle.

The ceremony was taking place at St Giles’ Cathedral as part of the Queen’s visit to Scotland in her diamond jubilee year.

A parade in its wake featured 400 pipers led by the Lothian and Borders Police band.

The Scottish Government’s secretary for government strategy, Bruce Crawford, said: “As well as marking Royal Week, the event will showcase the talents of many of Scotland’s community groups.”
