Wiggins and co inspire rise in bike sales

The knock-on effect from the 2012 summer of sport has been felt in Edinburgh, according to high street retailer Cash
Converters.

The retailer of second-hand goods has witnessed a 36 per cent sales spike in its bicycle sales since August 1. Consumers who have witnessed the success of Sir Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish at the Tour de France have headed to the retailer on South Clerk Street and Leith Walk to grab a bargain and test their appreciation for the sport before buying a top-of-the-range bicycle.

Business development manager Nathan Sermon said: “Not only have stores in Edinburgh sold the majority of their bike stock, but we have had people registering an interest for particular bikes. We have also witnessed an increase in the number of bikes being sold to us as people upgrade to a newer model.”
