Whisky sale on the rocks

A BOTTLE of rare Scotch whisky expected to smash auction records failed to sell as no buyer met the minimum price.

The bottle of 54-year-old Bowmore was predicted to fetch between £100,000 and £150,000 at a Bonhams’ sale in Edinburgh, with five Scottish charities sharing the proceeds. But the hammer came down at £85,000 – short of the £100,000 reserve price.

Another bottle of Bowmore 1957 is to go on sale in New York later this month.
