Weather latest: Warning issued of high winds followed by snow
Scotland is braced for more snow this weekend
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning of high winds affecting central and southern Scotland tomorrow.
The red warning - which advises people to take action to prepare for the severe conditions - covers the areas of Central, Tayside, Fife, Strathclyde, south west Scotland and Lothian & Borders.
Major travel disruption is likely across much of Central Scotland tomorrow afternoon due to strong winds of 75-80mph and potential gusts of up to 90mph.
Rush hour commuters are being advised to pay attention to police travel warnings as conditions for travel between 3pm and 6pm are likely to be extremely poor and significant delays are expected.
The Met Office also warned of the possibility of some structural damage in some areas.
The stormy weather will be followed by freezing temperatures and possible snow on Friday.
Brent Walker, a forecaster at the Met Office, said: “As the storm passes through and moves to the east of the UK on Friday north-westerly winds will bring in cold air which will see a drop in temperatures.
“This is expected to bring snow to northern and western parts of the UK, while other parts of the country will see a cold night on Friday with widespread temperatures of around -1 °C.”
Further severe weather warnings have been issued for the risk of snow in Western Scotland on Friday and Saturday.

Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 12:10 AMWe have all heard about severe weather reports before, But because they were wrong, we now hesitantly believe them anymore, However, better be prepared just in case!

Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 11:51 PMWhat happened to the lack of rain and snow due to climate change? I was told the world was going to end yesterday because we are killing the world. Why has the SNP not fixed this snow and wild conditions by now? Where is the First Minister in turning back the clouds? We never used to get this kind of weather under a Labour government.
